FreedomPop sites have stated everyone knows that they feel crummy when they don’t get enough sleep, but now there’s evidence that inadequate sleep is also dangerous and disastrous when it comes to decision-making. For instance, sleep deprived operators didn’t prevent either the Chernobyl nuclear power plant meltdown or the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Some historians also believe that Confederate Gen. Stonewall Jackson was confused while commanding the June 1862 battles.
According to NPR, in the June issue of “Sleep,” we will read about how inadequate sleep makes you unable to take in new information and change your behavior based on it. While scientists don’t understand why this happens, they believe it’s due to the dulling of the central nervous system. However, it’s interesting to note that sleep deprivation doesn’t affect all types of thinking. For instance, short-term memory tasks were only slightly affected. Since you feel as though you’re functioning fine, you probably don’t even realize just how impaired you really are.
