You see the terms diet or sugar-free any time you go into a grocery supermarket. Alexei Beltyukov says, these items are normally lower in calories and so people tend to buy them thinking that they will help their weight loss efforts. Unfortunately, sugar-free items have their downfalls as well, and you need to weight out the pros and cons with going with these types of foods if you’re looking to lose weight. First and foremost, sugar-free items are often sweetened using other methods, and some of these methods are quite unnatural. For instance, diet soda drinks often have aspartame in them which has been linked to a wide range of health problems with long-term use.
Diet foods have also been studied and some people have found that they actually steadily gain weight over time eating these types of foods and consuming diet drinks. There is no real reason for this, but some studies have suggested that the artificial sweeteners in these products can cause steady weight gain with time. If you are watching your waist line, it might be better to avoid sugar-free items and to simply follow a fruit and veggie diet that can benefit you in many different ways. If you must buy things that are sugar-free or diet, be sure that you do not overdo it just like you wouldn’t overdo eating anything that has a lot of sugar in it for yourself as well.
