David McDonald is the current Chief Operations Officer at OSI Industries. He is originally from the state of Iowa. McDonald received a bachelor’s degree in animal science at Iowa State. He joined OSI as soon as he finished college and has remained with the company throughout his professional business career. McDonald rose through the ranks over the years and eventually became the top executive at the company. He has six children. Two of his offspring have gone on to attend his Alma mater, Iowa State. McDonald has a strong relationship with his former College. He remains in close contact with his fraternity by way of scholarship funding and a number of other donations. He is also very active around the university itself. David participated in naming the Martin J Walter AGR center. McDonald is also chairman of the board for the American Meat Institute.
David McDonald has been one of the executives pushing for growth at OSI Industries. He supervised the acquisition of Baho Foods. Baho Foods is a European food manufacturer that has been in operation for many years. OSI was looking to broaden its reach within the industry and develop a stronger European base. McDonald believes that Baho Foods will give them the leverage needed to enter into new areas of the food manufacturing market. David plans to leave the Baho Foods leadership intact. They will operate as a subsidiary under the OSI brand.
David McDonald implemented the new management structure in China. He wanted to make sure it remained up to the standards of the company’s international community. He reassigned many responsibilities in the China region. Shaking up the team was a way to get everyone on the same page and make sure that no leg of the organization was falling behind in any part of the world. There are now a team of experts who rotate internationally in order to monitor operations. There is a new screening process for potential employees to ensure that they are up to the level of excellence that OSI Industries will require of them.
OSI Industries has been able to grow due to its ability to recruit the right talent for the organization. The company has committed to a thorough process with recruiting bases in the Asia-Pacific, Hungary, the Americas, Poland and the United Kingdom. OSI was ranked the 136th largest privately owned company in the United States at one point by Forbes. It had risen to as high as 58 on the same list.
