George Soros Defends Democracy Through Large Donations

As an American citizen for the past 50 years, the 85-year-old New Yorker of Hungarian birth, knows well what the dangers of hate rhetoric mean. At age 12, he experienced the rise of Hitler in Nazi Germany, where he watched as the Nazis loaded up his family and hauled them off to concentration camps on Biography. He and his siblings escaped to the United States and later became citizens.

Mr. Soros dedicated his life to promoting the dreams of democracy by investing in the future of America. His focus on the most critical issues of immigration reform, religious tolerance, and improving the criminal justice system at http://www.nytimes.com/topic/person/george-soros are only part of his contribution to society. He also invests in Democratic candidates in local, state, and Federal elections, and is intent on seeing Citizens United overturned.

After the presidential election, George met with the leaders of the DNC, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on November 14th, 2016, to discuss the future of democracy and the Democratic Party. Apparently, the president-elect hit a nerve with voters that the Democrats did not expect, and the shock of how much hate that candidate aroused is a threat to democracy across the world.

During the election, Soros contributed $2 million to defeat the incumbent Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona who is most famous for his tent city jail where prisoners have only the bare necessities while incarcerated. This type of punishment brings back memories of occupied German concentration camps, and the internment of Japanese-American citizens during WWII. There is little doubt as to why George Soros is against this type of imprisonment, and willing to donate millions of dollars to prevent this from becoming the ‘norm’ in American society.

Foundations tied to Soros contributed $25 million dollars to boost Clinton’s campaign because most party officials and campaign managers expected that her extensive background in supporting and promoting women and minorities would be enough to get her elected. However, the RNC candidate found a niche of disgruntled citizens who thrived on hate speech; draining the swamp in Washington; getting rid of healthcare, and kicking out all immigrants. Of course, George Soros funded as much campaign expense as needed to circumvent the GOP candidate and stop his rise to power.

If the Republican candidate takes office, the Democrats intend to focus on the upcoming 2017 and 2018 elections to regain control of Congress and then concentrate on retaking the White House.
